This Rome, New York home was built in 1987, right around the time double-pane glass was becoming standard, but seal technology hadn’t caught up yet. By the time our crew got involved, the seals had failed, the glass had started to fog, and the original frames had never really stood up to Central New York’s freeze-thaw cycles.
We replaced the affected windows with new vinyl double-hung units, including the bay window off the back bedroom. The old bay had three separate wood sashes that had all shifted slightly out of square over the years, so getting a tight, even fit took some careful measuring. The new windows keep the same divided-lite look the home is known for, just with a tighter seal and a lot less draft.
The homeowners kept their original shutters, heart cutouts and all, which we worked around during the install.
