Expert Window Replacement in Syracuse, NY: A Second Upgrade for This 1960s Ranch
A 1960s Syracuse ranch received a much-needed window upgrade after decades of drafts and rising heating costs. We replaced two aging windows with new vinyl units while keeping the existing shutters and trim intact, giving the home a cleaner look and improved comfort.
Before-and-after image of a bedroom window in a 1960s-era Syracuse, NY home. From wood-framed three-lite to white vinyl sliders.

This 1960s ranch in Syracuse had already been through one round of window replacements back in the 1980s, which is a pretty common story for CNY homes of this age. Upgrades of that era were usually wood-tone frames, and by now those originals had reached the end of their service life, too.

We swapped out the large three-lite bedroom window for a new vinyl slider unit with a clean, open sightline, plus a matching double-hung window on the same side of the house. Both replacements kept the existing shutters and trim, so the exterior didn’t need any additional work.

The homeowners had noticed rising heating costs and drafts near both windows, which is typical once seals and hardware from a decades-old install start to give out. The new units close tightly and should hold up for years to come.
